  • 1.  Product category selection on projects

    Thanks to the AIA team for hosting a great intro webinar! I posed this question which might make more sense for the full network:

    How have folks decided on which product categories to focus on for reporting (max. 8 per project)? Just brainstorming, there may be a few ways I could imagine firms might give guidance to teams:

    • If a team has an intentional focus on criteria for a certain product during their research (as opposed to 'business as usual'), it should be reported
    • If a firm has a specific lens to promote across the firm (i.e. climate health), encourage teams to report out products where that data are available
    • If the firm aims to provide advocacy towards filling gaps in available data for different product categories, it should be reported as a signal to the industry
    • If a project has limited bandwidth, encourage them just report out on products where the data are immediately available
    • Focusing on the biggest quantity or cost of materials within a given project, to make connections to investment/impact

    Are there other ways firms are approaching this?

    This is a great list of ideas and options, @Gwen Fuertes!  Our Ewingcole SAP has goals set for each of the 5 impact categories over time, but we aren't applying those equally to all projects at this point.  A couple of approaches we are using are variations on your last item above:

    • Using project type to determine priority product types - similar opportunities for wall protection in healthcare projects, as an example;
    • Using project scope to determine priority product types - interior renovations focusing on reducing impact of products that might be high churn

    How about others?
