    Hi folks,

I wanted to announce an event that we are hosting in February.

Legal Concerns for Queer Architects: A Conversation

    Tuesday, February 18, 2025 – 5 to 6 PM Eastern Time

Cost: Cost: FREE - All AIA & AIAS Members; $5 - Students who are not AIAS Members; $20 - Not an AIA member

1.0 AIA LU | Elective (pending)

    Via Zoom

    Organized by the LGBTQIA+ Alliance

In light of the current legal uncertainties and the potential rollback of many hard-earned LGBTQIA+ rights, many of us are considering ways to best protect ourselves, our families, and our livelihoods.

Join us for an insightful conversation with Julie Snell from the LGBT Life Center. We will explore the history of LGBTQIA+ rights in the United States and the Commonwealth of Virginia, discuss essential legal documents and directives that LGBTQIA+ architects should consider to safeguard their personal and professional rights, and examine state-specific rights, such as non-discrimination laws, that our community should be aware of.

More information and the sign up for the event can be found here: Legal Concerns for Queer Architects: A Conversation | AIA Northern Virginia

While the content of this session will be focused on legal concerns of Virginia and the Greater DC Metro Area, there are take aways that folks in other states and regions may find beneficial.  Please share with anyone you know who may benefit from this presentation.  Your participation will help us build on future events!

    Thanks!

    Thank you Spencer!

The resources and acceptance I've found since moving to the Richmond area are outstanding. I've gone ahead and shared this with two of our internal culture/community groups (Pride & Gender Identity) just in case those members didn't see this announcement.

I don't know how I would keep myself sane during these trying times if it weren't for being able to organize, strategize, and share information like this. Keep up the excellent work and we'll see you in about two weeks!

    Thank you again!

    Al,

Even though I'm organizing it I still had to sign up.

When I signed up I received an email confirmation with all of the standard zoom attendance info (link, phone numbers, etc).  If you haven't received that please check your junk mail folder or any spam filters.

if it's still not there please reach out to AIA Northern Virginia at aianova@aianova.org.  Someone at the chapter should be able to help you.

    Thanks,

A huge thank you to everyone who attended last night's event.

In a few days we will be sending an email out to everyone who signed up, not just those who were able to attend, which will include a copy of the presentation and other resources.

If you have any feedback you would like to share on this event or ideas for events moving forward, please feel free to respond here or message me directly.

    Thanks!

Spencer,   May you add me to the mailing list for the presentation.  Recently joined the group and wasn't able to sign up in time.

    Thank you
