Please join me in congratulating our Public Architects Committee leader Kelly Hayes McAlonie, FAIA, AUA, LEED AP for her indomitable spirit and visionary leadership in public architecture! She has championed education design, advanced gender equity, and transformed the University of Buffalo and other university campuses into places of beauty, innovation and belonging. The Award for Excellence in Public Architecture "recognizes architects, public officials, & others who design notable public facilities and/or advocate for design excellence in public spaces. Among numerous other contributions, I would like to highlight Kelly Hayes McAlonie's groundbreaking biography of Louise Blanchard Bethune: Every Woman Her Own Architect, which is a gift to the profession and explores deeply the history and value of membership in the American Institute of Architects.
And please don't miss the opportunity to attend the AIA25 Public Architects Symposium on June 4 where Kelly will participate in the panel The Public University: Driving the Future. We are extremely grateful for her long-lasting contributions to civic excellence and look forward to celebrating with her at the AIA25 Investiture ceremony.
