This session explores how contemporary architecture is expanding into immersive, ecological, and performance-driven territories-reframing buildings as active environments that shape health, safety, and welfare outcomes. The discussion will examine how design can move beyond static form-making toward dynamic systems that respond to environmental conditions, material behavior, and patterns of use.
Participants will also consider how ecological thinking and sustainability strategies can be embedded into architectural systems to enhance occupant comfort, environmental quality, and long-term building performance. Additional focus will be placed on material selection and building assemblies, emphasizing their role in supporting healthier indoor environments and reducing exposure to harmful conditions over time.
The webinar will further explore the interaction between human and nonhuman systems within the built environment, and how these relationships can inform design strategies that advance well-being, social connectivity, and equitable access to high-quality spaces. Finally, the session will address the future of immersive environments and evolving urban conditions, particularly as cities adapt to shifting demographics, aging populations, and increasing demands for accessibility, safety, adaptability, and resilience.
