AIA New Jersey's Committee on the Environment presents Built Environments: The Silent Architect of Human Health
Date: March 3, 2026
Time: 12:00 PM-1:00PM Eastern Time
Free – 1 HSW
The Silent Architect of Human Health is a thought-provoking webinar presented by Philip Allsopp, D.Arch., M.S. (Public Health), RIBA, CSBA, whose career uniquely bridges architecture, public health science, systems analytics, and climate action. Drawing on decades of experience as both a licensed architect and a public health professional, Allsopp examines how the built environment quietly-but powerfully-shapes physical health, mental wellbeing, life expectancy, and community resilience.
Through data-driven research, case studies, and large-scale systems modeling, the program reveals how design decisions related to housing quality, walkability, environmental exposure, and infrastructure directly influence chronic disease, cognitive health, and public safety. Allsopp brings a rare perspective informed by his leadership roles in global consulting, healthcare analytics, academic research, and architectural institutions, including his current service as a Trustee of the Royal Institute of British Architects.
The session positions architecture as a frontline public health intervention and explores the architect's expanding responsibility in addressing climate change, inequity, and economic pressures through healthier, safer, and more resilient built environments. Participants will gain practical insight into how interdisciplinary collaboration, policy engagement, and emerging analytical tools can empower architects to measurably improve human health and welfare at building, neighborhood, and city scales.
