Building on the energy from A.L. and to start the week (yes, even though it is Tuesday..) - excited to start this thread to share a bit about the local AIA LGBTQIA+ alliances (and a few others).

While not quite "all over" the US, these locally based communities and networks have been engaged in some amazing work, programs, and events. Take a look at the map or following link if you are in/around any of these areas and looking to connect.
For any of the Alliances (or really just anyone in general) - if you do have an event or happening in your area, I would love to encourage the use of this thread to share that! Maybe a few details that would be helpful to include could be..

    • Event Name
    • Event Date + Time (including time zone it/you are located in)
    • Event Description (or link)
    • If others are able to attend only in person or if the event is hybrid

Can't wait to see all is occurring across the US and any connections through/with the existing Alliances that occur!

PS - if you have any questions in general or are curious about how to start an alliance in your area, please reach out! There is a growing network of AIA LGBTQIA+ local alliance leadership that is here to support!

I'm really excited to be a part of this Affinity Group.

I wanted to let you all know that it is possible to become a certified LGBTE business through the NGLCC.  This organization supports and advocates for LGBTQ businesses.

Check it out and get certified.

    Ren,

This is a great idea! I'm in Portland, but would love to participate in something like this --maybe virtually?

Are there any other PNW people interested?

    Thanks!

    Hi Sarah!

It's so exciting to see the momentum on local chapters looking to start their own Alliances!  For anyone that has any questions, please feel free to reach out to our group in NYC as well (email: lgbtqia@aiany.org) for any support.

In the spirit of this thread, I wanted to let everyone know that anyone in NYC in June may wish to participate in our upcoming walking tour event with LGBT Historic Sites:

    https://calendar.aiany.org/2024/03/19/walking-tour-lgbtq-history-in-greenwich-village/

It will be a wonderful event, hosted by LGBT Historic Sites, and will end at Julius Bar for drinks and networking.  We will also be hosting a Pride Celebration event at the Lutron Experience Center on June 26th.  So please stay tuned for details on that in the coming weeks.

    Hey All,

After the excitement at AIA'24 I've started working with AIA Northern Virginia to develop our own Alliance group.

Right now we are in the planning stages, but in our quarterly chapter newsletter that went out today we put out a call for interest and asked folks to sign up to get more information and so we can gauge interest.

If anyone is in the area and would like to boost the signal, please help do so.

    Thanks!

Edited to add a link to the newsletter in case any wants to forward that.  I've also been told that a graphic for social media will be forthcoming.

    Hello from Los Angeles!

I am a first time responder to this AIA LGBTQIA thread, and wanted to thank you all for being out and visible and engaged. It warms my heart!

I am a sole proprietor of my firm, Arcolution, and longtime member of the AIA. I've not really been very active in the L.A. chapter... however, this year I decided to participate in the Monterey Design Conference happening Oct 27-29 at Asilomar, and wonder who might else be going that is a follower of this thread? I may be late to the game, but I'm wondering if there there any plans or would anyone like to make plans to meet up there?

    If so, let's connect!

    Best,

    Eve
