The Global Architecture Symposium will return to AIA26 in San Diego, with a half-day program highlighting international perspectives across the AIA network!

This year, the theme is: The Edge Condition

In architecture, the edge condition is the transitional zone where materials, spaces, or environments meet. Today, this idea expands to the cultural and conceptual edges that define global practice. This symposium explores these contemporary thresholds - where cultures, identities, technologies, and ideas intersect. Proposals should examine how design operates in these in-between conditions to create meaning, belonging, and resonance across diverse contexts.

Focus areas may include:

•        Cultural intersections (heritage and innovation; local and global)

•        Emotional context (memory, identity, belonging)

•        Hybrid environments (physical and digital)

•        Urban thresholds (mobility, transition, community)

•        Ecology and ambition (natural systems and urban development)

Submissions that challenge or expand the traditional notion of "the edge" are strongly encouraged

Submission Requirements

Please submit a one-page white paper which includes the following:

•        Session title

•        Short description, including topics that will be covered and some learning outcomes.

•        Speaker list with short bios or links to bios

•        A note of which AIA Chapters or Sections are represented.

Please note sessions should be 30 - 45 mins in length. Panel discussions involving multiple speakers are preferred. Collaboration between or representation from various AIA chapters and/or sections is similarly encouraged.

Submission deadline: Friday December 19, 2025, 18:00 (Eastern US time).

The symposium will be held during AIA26. Tentative date: 10 June 2026 (TBC).

Speakers will receive discounted AIA26 registration and free entry to the symposium.

Please note travel and accommodation costs for speakers to attend AIA26 are not covered.
