We have a project renovating a private school where our fee is based on a percentage of Construction Cost. The client has never established a construction cost, however a contractor has estimated a cost for the client based on DD drawings of $4.6 million. We are hesitant to bill at this construction cost until bids are in and have been billing at a $3 million construction cost just in case they cut back the budget. Has anyone one else run into a similar quandry? What have you done in such cases?
