My staff is telling me that more and more the general contarctors are having their subs and their suppliers asking us for backgrounds to be used as the base for shop drawings. This is disturbing in several ways:
1. It is a time waste for my staff
2. We get no added income for this activity
3. Changes may occur to the documents and therefore the backgrounds may not be totally up to date
4. These drawings can be manipulated and what is our liability if that is done
5. The drawings are being considered perfect, used as complete and the user does no field investigation to ascertian any possible flaws. There again how might this come back to haunt us as the provider of the bacground.
Are others of you finding this situation to be the latest condition of the electronic era? If so, under what conditions do you proceed?
