I am afraid that I completely agree with your comments. Architects are great at embracing more and more additional work without having the strength to embrace more fees to compensate for this added effort. Clearly we need to find ways to be more efficient, but BIM so far has not proven itself to be able to do that. In fact, we are seeing that we are adding significant man hours to each project produced with BIM, or specifically Revit.
Our larger & more learned clients have been willing to pay for this added effort. However, smaller clients do not understand this potential added value and are reluctant to pay for this new software. We have been trying to educate all of our clients on this new tool and the long term value which it may provide. I encourage all Architects to raise this flag and acknowledge that it is indeed an added cost and we should be compensated for it. We are our own worst enemy.
