I appreciate Mr. McClures post about spec writing. I recently joined a firm as a sustainable design manager and quickly discovered that the office spec was not very current, probably a derivative of Masterspec 1994. I requested and acquired the latest Masterspec version. Of course the first 3 or 4 projects were grueling because I started with the unedited sections and worked through them, including LEED requirements along the way. I had to do a lot of research in order to make the competent choices required. I agree with the comment that there is no EASY button and writing good specs takes a lot of time. I am having a difficult time convincing my colleagues to make the change. The EASY button has been used for a long time.
