    Thanks to Gary Collins for re-railing this topic and for making my earlier points much more effectively:

    a) Let's ask this question, not of each other, but of our clients and other interested publics.

    b) Let's know that our publics care more about the places they inhabit than the buildings we design.

    Not to de-rail the Love Train here... but possibly the discussion should be moved from the "Practice Management" group to a more Design-focused forum.

    The other place the question of "Why does design matter?" belongs is in the First Year, First Semester, First Day of design class at all architecture schools, as well as the public primary & secondary schools. Within the AIA, unless you're going to uncover some new, fresh, ground on the subject that's never been written before, and we'd all love to read that, discussing why design matters is preaching to the choir methinks.

    Be that as it may, Robert's Point a.), below, is Spot On - ask the community the value of Design.
