If you're planning on attending the AIA Convention in New Orleans, May 11-14, I encourage you to consider signing up for two sessions by the Practice Management Knowledge Community:
A half-day workshop (WE101) "Preparing for the Recovery: Using the Downturn to Your Firm's Advantage" on Wednesday, May 11 from 8-12:00
With our profession finally facing a recovery, architecture firms need to prepare now for a new normal for our industry. Led by four PMKC Advisory Group members, participants in this workshop will leverage lessons learned from the downturn to improve their practices in areas such as marketing and business development, staffing and human resources, project and firm financial management, technology and project delivery, collaboration and teaming, and leadership development and succession.
The Practice Management Lunch, "Thriving in a Tough Economy and a Look to the Future" (EV307) on Friday, May 13 from 11:30-1:30, sponsored by the AIA Practice Management Knowledge Community and ARCHITECT/Hanley Wood
The leaders of top-ranked 2011 ARCHITECT 50 firms will gather for a spirited panel discussion during which they will describe how their firms-large and small-have continued to succeed in terms of financial performance, design quality, and commitment to sustainability, as well as addressing future trends in our industry and profession.
In addition to these two programs, two of our PMKC advisory group members will be presenting their own seminars:
Cliff Moser will be presenting "The Lean Design Practice and Construction Firm" (TH202) on Thursday, May 12 from 7-8:00 AM and also "The Virtual Big Room: Be Here Now with Immersive Reality" (TH262) on Thursday, May 12, from 6-7:00 PM.
Rena Klein will be presenting "Going It Alone: Practice as a Solo Practitioner" (SA423) on Saturday, May 14 from 8:30-10:00.
To easily find any of these activities through the online registration process, simply type the program number into the "search by program code" box.
We look forward to seeing you there!
