I am surprised to read that Texas will now require Architects to be fingerprinted (then run through FBI and other databases) before a license can be renewed.  (with an additional fee for this).   I am licensed in most of the western states and this is the first state that I deal with requiring such.

Are any others aware of this elsewhere?  Does anyone know if this is common theme in all the licensed professions?

    Thanks

I just got that notice too!  This is a first for an architect's license and I have many.  I did have to get fingerprinted for my CA General Contractor's license renewal 2 years ago.  That was not as surprising in this day and age, but Architects??????

It is easier to buy a gun in Texas than to get a license to practice architecture.  I guess it is more dangerous to be an architect.

The fingerprint requirement starts for renewal in January 2014 and applies to all licensed professionals in Texas, not just architects.

It must be a widely known fact to the state legislators that the current self reporting system at renewal does not work is being bypassed by what would amount to a large number of under the radar felons.  We can only hope that this weeds out the large number of undesirables from our ranks.  Yea, right.

Although fingerprinting is not "yet" a requirement, part of the requirements for annual license renewal in Puerto Rico is a Certificate of Negative Police Record from your Jurisdiction and a Negative Certificate of Debt from the Puerto Rico Child Support Administration.
