    Hi All,

I'm looking for suggestions for furniture. We have 5 offices (50-ish people each) and are growing out of our very old Plummers desks. I want something that I can leverage better over time. I've seen small firms build custom but I don't think it's scalable enough for us. I've seen large firms spec high-end systems (Knoll, etc...) and, while nice, it can get quite pricey. Perhaps those are really my only 2 options but I wanted to throw it out there in case anybody has a good solution that they've seen or used and would like to share.

    Thanks!

John - This is less a direct response to your posting than it is an added wrinkle, but one worth giving some thought while you consider office furniture. An interest I'm pursuing based upon advice from two of my physicians is an adjustable sit/stand desk. There is a great deal of enthusiastic Internet literature and commentary about the value of sit/stand office solutions - just Google it.

New players are entering the furniture solution arena every day. Versadesk appears to offer a solid line of furniture at a reasonable price; I'm considering ordering one of their Edison desks to try it out. Their monitor support solutions appear over-priced; I use four monitors and found clamp-on paired monitor support solutions with excellent reviews on Amazon at a fourth of Versadesk's prices. But their desks appear solid and sized to my needs.

    Hey John!

The furniture at Gordon Chong's old office looked pretty versatile - everything was on casters including CPU stands.  They could reconfigure their workplace at a moment's notice.  I guess they are Stantec now?   I don't know if they had everything custom built - maybe Eric McKinney would know.

    Hi Bob!

Now that you mention it, I do recall the Chong desks being pretty flexible. I think they did a desking/table sort of a system. It's becoming pretty popular now with Knoll and others but also a bit pricey. I might reach out to Eric though to see if he can remember what they used.

    Thanks!!!

Just ran across these height-adjustable tables at the Dwell show: www.multitable.com. They seem to be less expensive than Knoll et al.

While I have not personally used them, I would love to have this flexibility in my own office.

    Philip/Kate,

I actually have had some requests and conversations about height adjustable systems. It's considerably more difficult when trying to develop a system for hundreds of people, etc... but it still needs to be part of the conversation. The major manufacturers (Steelcase, Knoll, etc...) have taken it into account too with adjustable desks. I'd guess that it won't be long until they incorporate it into a line of systems furniture too which is something that might be compelling for us.

    Thanks for the feedback!
