This webinar will be a review of the most influential inpatient unit designs of the last 100 years. We will look at the trends and forces that shaped these designs and how these sea changes in planning impacted the inpatient ward designs that followed. We will look at how the four major trends we followed in Part 1 influenced the ideas behind the architecture:

  1. Infection control
  2. Sustainability
  3. Healing Environment
  4. Efficiency and Flexibility

We will also see which of these plans remained influential into the future and if any became the standard approach to hospital environments. Finally we will identify any future directions for inpatient facility design as the U.S. healthcare system continues to evolve.
