AIA Twenty-five Year Award

The winner of this year’s award is the John Hancock Tower. It’s architect, Henry N. Cobb, FAIA, of Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, LLP, will present The Skyscraper as Citizen, and will offer unique reflections on the public life of private buildings as well as the back story of design of the John Hancock Tower in Boston.  Also presented will be the criteria for the Twenty-five Year Award and the rich history of previous award winners dating back to the first award in 1969.  With this year’s winner included, 11 of the 42 award winners were also named to the AIA’s Top 150 “America’s Favorite Buildings.

The buildings chosen to receive the AIA Twenty-five Year Award distinguish themselves by their ability to stand the test of time. They must have been completed 25 to 35 years ago and must be projects in the United States or abroad, designed by an architect licensed in the United States. Each of the projects that receive this award must demonstrate excellence in function, in the distinguished execution of its original program, and in the creative aspects of its statement by today's standards.  A member of the Honor Awards Jury will participate in the presentation.
