2011 Honorary Fellows: Global Perspectives on Regionalism Convention number AIAX11SA424

When:  May 14, 2011 from 08:30 AM to 10:00 AM (CT)
Associated with  Committee on Design
This program presents an opportunity to hear Angelo Bucci, HFAIA Brazil and Carme Pinos, HFAIA Spain discuss their recent work and perspectives on cultural and climatic responses to building and urban design.  These two new Honorary Fellows will share insight into their design processes and products—highlighting the influence of physical geography, social fabric, local building traditions, and other defining forces within their work. A moderated discussion will further explore the methods by which world-class architecture is conceived and realized.

Election to honorary fellowship not only recognizes the achievements of the foreign architect as an individual, but also recognizes a model architect who has made a significant contribution to architecture and society on an international level. This program will tap into the great minds of this year's class for the benefit of attendees and the broader AIA membership.

The program's tri-format structure (presentation, moderated discussion, and audience questions) will yield an engaging examination of contemporary design issues and thoughtful exploration of contrasting policies, codes, and traditions, setting the stage for an inspirational dialogue about the art of regional design.
