Kaylyn found architecture through her grandfather, an aeronautical engineer who’s Franktown, CO house was designed by Colorado Architect Cab Childress in the 1960’s. Her grandfather showed her original sketches and drawings for the house and shared his utmost respect for architects; this sparked the interest and at thirteen, Kaylyn decided she would become an architect, by thirty she was licensed. Her life and education lead her from Canada, south Louisiana, Minnesota, and now Colorado. Living and working across the country has provided her a rounded perspective on people, place, culture, and design.
An Associate Principal at Semple Brown, Kaylyn leads her teams with empathy, with a focus on getting obstacles out of their way to empower them to do their best work. She both leads and supports a variety of projects from mixed-use, multi-family residential, office, hospitality, and adaptive reuse. She finds joy in the large complex projects, but also in the small nuances of the smaller scale.
Active in the profession, Kaylyn has served on the AIA Colorado Board of Directors, multiple committees, and at the AIA National level with the Young Architects Forum as the Colorado Representative and on AdCom as the 2026 - 2027 Strategy Director. She is passionate about giving back to the design community, bringing up the younger generation of architects, advocating for and advancing the profession.
