  • 1.  How are you using AI in your practice?

    Posted 18 days ago

    HI everyone.

I'm curious if people can share how or if they are using AI in their daily practice. I have seen AI Images show up when doing precedent research, and just this morning I was doing some code research and the first thing to pop up was an AI summary response of my code question. The latter gave me pause because the content was not 100% accurate. Anyone using it successfully?

    Robert,

AI should be seen as a tool, not a crutch, for conducting research or initial design ideas.  The findings from an AI search should NEVER be shown to a client.  As I tell my students no one is going to sue AI.

    Hi All:
I am using AI more often in my practice in asking research questions, obtaining information on materials, and sourcing complex sustainability options. I also use it with caution to verify sources, and ensure the information provided through AI is industry correct.  I do not use it for any writing, professional letters, and project correspondence because, I have found I am more authentic when I use my own words whether great or not.  One does not have to all know all and allows for AI to assist in so many ways to make design project better, but it will not supplement professional designer's unique creative skills.

    1. Gemini with the assistance of upcode if pretty good for code research.  Need to double check but it will save significant time.
    2. Very helpful for doing research on people you are writing proposals for and their organizations.
    3. Drafting emails is made easier and more to the point, reducing time and stress.
    4. Crafting narrative content for presentations based on above research and communication.
    5. Generating preliminary renderings based on preliminary consensus data.

All still needs to be refined by the human, us,  for the last 5-10% but massive time savings, higher productivity and higher quality of life.

I’ve used ai for code research, however I’ve created my own gpt. I’ve uploaded the applicable codes and directed it to only use those for determining my questions. It also provides the link to the code reference so I can always go check to verify what is produced. I’ve had really good success.

Younger team members use it since they have less experience researching many of the code concerns.

That’s a response to your specific question. We also use ai for all of our meetings and it’ll generate meeting minutes. We use it for programming for new projects to assist in developing our all budgets, scopes etc. All can be done by analyzing our spreadsheets.

Generating interior renderings with actual materials is a huge timesaver especially on different furniture fabrics or lighting.

A few but we use it all throughout the practice

    Hi Robert,
I have started to 'Learn how to use Ai to write my specs and transfer that information that I have in Excel spreadsheets, to a process of making text from that noodle soup.  I use the markdown files (*.md file format). The idea is to get the information out of my Excel files (which are littered everywhere) that have specs and use that markdown, in doing design reviews using askSage. Still new like everyone to how to implement this new future tool so to speak. thanks, Dean Tidwell AIA NCARB
