Mr. Wauters is very much dead center on the target. Practicing forensics architecture for over thirty years in south Florida has given a deep exposure to the folly of following the formulaic codes as to energy, particularly where they are developed by another more temperate climate mentality, experience and sensibility. In warm humid climates buildings may well need to breath more than allowed in the temperate zone driven code provisions as well as being upon dependent conditions of the geographical location of the building. And such a determination can only be made on a case by case basis from an experienced and informed perspective - it is not appropriate to yield to the approach dictated by the checklist mentality of most regulators.
