  • 1.  Biopsy/Pathology Slide Storage

    We're finding pathologists want to save every glass slide of every biopsy.  Are there standards or benchmarks for the length of time that pathology slides (biopsies) must be stored?  Where would I find them?  Thanks.

    Hello Michael,

    Minimum requirements do exist for pathological & histological slide storage, but they are dictated by each state health department.  Standard requirements would be decided upon by each hospital if they determine that this information needs to be retained longer. 

    As an example, one of our long term clients has decided that they wish to keep adult slides for 21 years when they are only required to keep for a minimum of 10 years.
