The Academy of Architecture for Health Foundation (AAHF) and the Emergency Medicine Foundation (EMF) announced on July 18th a new grant initiative for 2016 to support research on relationships between operations and the physical design of emergency department.  Proposals will be requested on five topic areas along with an open topic option.   Co-Principal investigators from both emergency medicine and architectural backgrounds must be part of the proposal team structure, emphasizing the desire to bring knowledge from the two disciplines to the study.  The grant selection process and management will be administered through the Emergency Medicine Foundation.  A panel of emergency medicine physicians and architects will select the preferred proposal and monitor progress.

"The Academy of Architecture for Health Foundation is very excited about this opportunity to work with EMF.  This is our first joint research initiative.  We are grateful for the enthusiasm of the Emergency Medicine Foundation and for the support of AIA Academy of Architecture for Health members and firms in funding our share of this study," said Frank Zilm, President of the AAHF.

"The Emergency Medicine Foundation is looking forward to receiving innovative and interesting proposals by the emergency physician/architect team. The EMF and AAHF partnership is a great step in designing functional, safe and patient-centric emergency departments," said Vidor Friedman, MD, FACEP, Chair of EMF.

The release date for the RFP is planned for September 2015 and will be posted on the EMF and AAHF web sites.

The Emergency Medicine Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that works to advance emergency medicine science and is closely associated with the American College of Emergency Physicians.  The Academy of Architecture for Health Foundation also is a 501(c)(3) with a mission to support education and research in support of the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health.
