We have definitely seen an increase in untethered, laser-guided gantry units being included in the planning of both Cath Labs and OR's in California. The flexibility that the hybrid imaging component brings into the OR expands the opportunities for surgeons to plan, guide and access complex procedures. The beauty of having these units roll up, complete their imaging tasks and then back away and park until needed again. Most surgeons are opting for these setups since they provide better accuracy and guidance to their procedures.

The challenges come when trying to retrofit into existing arrangements the capabilities of adding the imaging equipment components and still provide a functional operating venue. Most existing OR's have there preferred setups and explaining the impacts to their already comfortable environment gets a little touchy at times, but they generally overlook some minor inconvenience with the added benefits of the additional equipment. We generally 3D model the rooms for the docs and show them the various layouts and play with the arrangements until they are satisfied. They generally appreciate the level of interactive effort to "dial in" exactly how they want the space arranged.
