The ICC existing building and fire code committees have finalized hearings on changes proposed by the Ad-hoc Committee on Health Care to coordinate the requirements in the code with the criteria used by CMS on existing hospitals.  Coordinated with requirements on all health care facilities, the direction set by the Ad-hoc Committee will provide parallel requirements which will remove conflicts from the 2015 editions of the I-Codes.

In 2012 the Ad-hoc Committee made significant changes to the International Building Code to incorporate similar changes as they affected new construction, making the entire package of the 2015 Codes coordinated with federal guidelines on health care facilities.  Representatives from ASHE, fire marshal's, state agencies and surveyors along with several architects participated in the almost two years of work to develop code changes.
