On Monday August 1, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) opened the second public comment period for the proposed 2012 update to its LEED green building rating system. The comment period will close on September 14, 2011. Members of the public have until September 14, 2011 to comment on any changes made since the first comment period, which ran from November 8, 2010 until January 19, 2011.
The AIA highly encourages our members to review and provide comments to the USGBC. It is critical the voice of practicing architects be heard as part of the USGBC's LEED 2012 public comment process.
Please take the time to consider items such as intent, criteria, referenced standards, and the time and effort needed to prepare credit documentation. These items that are part of LEED 2012 could impact the potential time and effort to achieve any level of LEED 2012 certification compared with any prior version of LEED.
