Hello!   Is anyone up there (in Washington, D.C.) paying attention?

Mr. Wills, as an AIA "code advocate", I'd expect that you'd list sections of the IGCC - indicating what architects should expect upon its passage...sending someone to a list of proposed changes (to version 2) is totally abrogating the AIA's role in advocating for its members...the IGCC has tremendous impact on each practitioner - and I've yet to see (from the AIA) an abbreviated listing of sections and inclusions, with AIA-commentary specifically addressing relative impacts on insurance, liability, and bottom line (fees)...

The AIA-offered listing should have started with version 1 - with modifications as-approved for version 2...if you'd like to review my previous blog postings on AIA Knowledge Net, I've provided much of the information; however, the AIA still needs to weigh-in formally with its opinions and recommendations (as I've stated above)...

    Why hasn't this happened yet?

AIA gets the comments when everyone else does. We then solicit member feedback and spend the majority of the interim months before the hearings building policy on some of the major changes. The Codes & Standards Committee divides and conquers, and then we publish on the website as soon as possible.

Several volunteer leader groups are looking at these very issues -- Contract Documents, the Business and Practice Subcommittee of the Board Advocacy Committee, and the Codes Committee are all busy analyzing these practice issues and will respond, but the issues are deep and meaningful enough to warrant taking the time to do that.

For anyone who's interested, Chris Green, AIA, LEED AP, chair of the AIA's Codes and Standards Committee and vice chair of the committee that drafted the initial iterations of the International Green Construction Code, has posted a thoughtful response to some of the concerns noted previously in the Codes and Standards KnowledgeNet forum. To view it, click here. If you're unable to access, please let me know and I'll forward you a copy.

    Thanks.
