Soak it or Get Soaked - How Stormwater Management Can Make Better Cities
For centuries architects thought about how to best keep the rain out. Now it becomes necessary to let the rain in. Not into the buildings, mind you, but into the soil.
It is easy to see how less rain can find its way back into the groundwater reservoirs the more space we seal with structures and pavement. Instead of being soaked into the ground, rain-water now rushes quickly across more or less impervious surfaces to the nearest drains and from there into creeks, rivers and finally the ocean.
