  • 1.  LEED and USGBC

Without intending to promote a political ideology, I can't help but suggest that there are three things that USGBC and LEED need -
    • Glasnost - clarity in process and transparency in action combined with accountability.
    • Perestroika - elimination of the appearance of arbitrary or contradictory actions and a setting aside of the attempt to control and dominate the process for the benefit of the organization vs the benefit of the results of the action the process engenders.
    • Whithering away of the state - as sustanability becomes second nature to design professionals and the norm in the design and construction process; as energy efficiency, reduction of waste, recycling and the reuse of buildings and materials and healthy building standards and products become parts of the legislated and zoning requirements of the jurisdictions and of the building codes, the need for the organization, the hierarchy and the bureaucracy disappears.
