As Thomas Bank so beautifully pointed out, take the AIA statement on Sustainable Design and substitute Health, Safety, and Welfare for Sustainable Design and you get this:

HEALTH, SAFETY, AND WELFARE design practices have become a mainstream
design intention in the architectural community, the Board of Directors
voted to allow the HEALTH, SAFETY, AND WELFARE design education requirement to sunset at
the end of calendar year 2012.

I guess AIA National doesn't think focusing on health, safety, and welfare has yet hit the maintstream!

My thoughts exactly. The Sustainable Design requirement brought an important component to the forefront. The technology and knowledge in the area is changing so fast there is always something new to learn. It seems like it should be an important element of continuing education at least until all of our buildings are net-zero- we've got a ways to go.
