  • 1.  Seeking Library Projects with Public Involvement

    Hello everyone,

I am currently developing my dissertation proposal for my PhD in architecture at the University of Michigan, and I need your help. I am looking to develop a better understanding of participatory design (involvement of stakeholders in design and decision making), and need examples of projects that used such processes. To begin, I am looking specifically at public library projects. I started with the AIA/ALA awards program, and came across the Mattapan branch library project as a good start, but I need additional cases. If you know of any recent (built after 2008) library projects that made an attempt to involve users in the design, please let me know by replying to this post or emailing me: justinmf@umich.edu

    Thank you for your consideration.

    Justin,

In response to your request for projects utilizing participatory design, I am forwarding what I believe may be a relevant link:
    http://www.aecknowledge.com/ktalks/21/view

This is a short video presentation that I did on the topic. Though the case study that I present is a youth center, not a library, it may still be of value to you in your research.

Good luck on your dissertation proposal. If I can provide additional information on this process, don't hesitate to email me directly at mcusenbery@rdcarchitecture.com.

    Sincerely,

    Mallory
