use a Brother MFC-J6910DW, which is not bulky, not expensive.
I can scan and plot on 8.5x11 and 11x17, full color Cad drawings from my computer.
I print my working drawings in 11x17, which are easy to handle, Cities love to have that size, as well in the job site, and contractors.
I make Jpeg to send electronically to consultants.   The machine also handle faxes.
I blow up areas where dimensioning of small spaces is necessary and print 11x17.
To me it saves time, because I do in my office, no driving or ordering to print shops.
One print takes around 5 seconds to do.  And drawings can be read on site even with strong winds.
I use color code to identify wall types, and other items which can be important to contractors.
