  • 1.  AIA dues should be graduated according to firm size

I have been a loyal member of the AIA for approximately 25 years. As a very small firm of just two Architects specializing in residential design, we have struggled to stay viable for the last few years ever since the bottom fell out of the housing industry. It has become increasingly difficult to write out that check for dues every year. I am finding that expense difficult to justify. The AIA should really consider that fact that a one size fits all dues structure does not really work, since the small firms such as myself can not continue to manage the every increasing dues. We will be leaving the organization one by one until eventually you will notice a large drop in your membership. Consider graduating the dues based on the size and billings of members and their firms.

I have valued my membership in AIA since college years (1981-1986).  As another long time AIA member and (very) small project practitioner, I am surprised and pleased that fellow members are speaking up.  We really need AIA to listen to our concerns about the dues...
