    Hello all,

I started my career on Long Island NY.  The local AIA chapter there does a nice booth at the home shows there.  Members take turns sitting in the booth and meeting people, explaining the Architects services and of course displaying local work.  Having since moved to the Baltimore region where the architects seal is not required for most residential work there is no AIA booth at the Home Shows.  Of course the local builders have a large presence.   What I have done on my own is attend many of these events to not only see the latest building products and consumer trends but to introduce myself to local builders.  I bring business cards and brochures to distribute.  I try to go during lighter attendance because it is easier to approach trades people during those times. Since being down in Baltimore about 6 years I have made many good contacts at these shows that have led to projects.  Having said that I believe it would be beneficial for local chapters to have a presence at these type of events.
