I share your frustration with the AIA, but have a different opinion about Robert Ivy. Full disclosure, I'm an architect and was a contributing editor at Architectural Record while he was Editor in Chief. He traveled constantly for years and met with architects around the country and, I believe, this gives him more exposure to what day-today practice is like than other executive directors and many successful architects.

Also, as Editor in Chief, he was not involved in the business practices of either Record or PA; it is the publisher that oversees that aspect. There is a clear division between content and business. Like Architect, Record suffered when it lost being the journal that comes with AIA membership.

I am a reluctant member of the AIA--even though I am a Fellow-and believe that it needs to change to address members' needs. It is a question of how.
