In 2025, an AIA mentorship workgroup conducted a Mentorship Inventory and analysis that informed the development of new, practical resources for chapters, committees, and members interested in engaging in mentorship. These tools are designed to support various programs occurring across the AIA network and encourage mentorship participation.

The Public Architects Symposium 2026, Building Public Trust in Civic Architecture, will be held in Washington, D.C., October 20 at the AIA Global Campus for Architecture & Design (GCAD). The call for session proposals is open through February 20.
The 2026 Small Project Design Knowledge Community Grant will open on February 12. The purpose of this grant is to provide financial support for nonprofits working with architects on community-based projects. Along with supporting the work of nonprofits, we want to help demonstrate the value of hiring an architecture firm (and AIA member) for community projects, by helping cover some of the costs associated with hiring a design team.
On October 21, 2025, 8 advisory group members of the AIA Housing and Community Development Knowledge Community (HCD) joined leaders at the AIA Housing Summit in Washington, DC, hosted by AIA President Evelyn Lee. The Summit brought together AIA National Leadership, senior leaders from approximately 20 national housing organizations, volunteer leaders, and AIA staff to advance coordinated housing advocacy and action within the AIA and beyond.
The mission of the Building Performance Knowledge Community (BPKC) is to increase the understanding of building science and performance and its role in the design process, as it relates to the ability of architects to positively impact equitable access to occupant health and comfort, as well as the function, durability, sustainability, and resilience of buildings.

The Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) held their joint ACSA/AIA Intersections Research Conference in Austin, TX, January 9-11, 2025. The conference explored housing as a process, a product, and a place.The conference brought together over 139 attendees from around the world who joined together to speculate on, advocate for, operate within, and struggle with new housing paradigms.Find more information at the ACSA Recap and a Karen Kubey article.
