COTE Network Update (September/October 2023)

By Bunny Tucker

The COTE Network Q3 in August included almost 100 participants gathered virtually to discuss policy and advocacy successes at the local level. Z Smith spoke about Louisiana’s adoption of the 2021 IECC; Tom Chase and Ken Levenson presented the opt-in stretch code requiring Passive House for multifamily buildings in Massachusetts; Simona Fischer and Sheri Hansen explained the new revisions to Minnesota’s commercial building code review period; and Meghan Lewis described the range of approaches to embodied carbon legislation taking place in the US. You can find the recording of the session along with the presentation slides and the meeting minutes here: https://network.aia.org/viewdocument/2023-q3-cote-network-quarterly-call.

We look forward to seeing you on our Q4 call (November 7th from 2-3PM ET), where each Chapter will provide an update on their work this year.

As the Network begins to plan for 2024, we are looking for volunteers who can contribute several hours a month to support our work. Volunteer opportunities range from supporting the quarterly calls and keeping minutes to tool development and data visualization. If you are interested please contact Bunny Tucker (bunnytuc@gmail.com) and Beth Brandt (bbrant@dsgn.com), and we will work to match the Network’s needs with your volunteer interests!

Bunny Tucker is a Certified Passive Haus Designer at Shape Architecture in Denver, Colorado, and a COTE Network Leader with the AIA Committee on the Environment. The COTE Network consists of 55+ local and state COTE chapters.
