Academy Journal

This scholarly journal features research, theory, and articles of interest aimed at healthcare architects. In case you missed it, the current print 18th edition was available at HCD, but you can also view it in PDF format. The 19th edition featuring five new articles was released earlier this month via email. Look for it to be printed in November 2017. You can view the Journal archives online.

Webinar Program

The Academy Webinar Program has been offering excellent educational content since 2008. This year, the program started mid-year as a monthly event every second Tuesday of the month. There are three series, which rotate: 101 Series, Master Series, and the Case Studies Series. These are free webinars that offer 1 AIA LU/HSW credits. Monthly webinars are being planned for 2017 with the first in February. Stay tuned for announcements and postings on the Academy website.

Research Initiatives

The Research Initiatives Committee has two primary activities: Partnering with the Center for Health Design to manage and update the Knowledge Repository, and development of the Case Studies Program.

The Knowledge Repository currently has over 3,000 citations and over 550 Key Point Summaries. The committee’s role has been to review the work completed in the Repository and help guide the work going forward.

The Case Studies Program is new this year, and has tremendous promise. The program has completed its pilot phase this year, with the first six case studies in a 10-page format for each. The idea is to create a rich collection of projects, with detailed information about each, including floor plans, data on area, cost, conceptual framework, and photos, to be used for bench marking. The pilot will be posted on the Academy website soon, and augmented over time as more are created.

Sincerely,
