Kitty Yuen, AIA, NCIDQ, NCARB
Denver Office Director | Cuningham
Born in Hong Kong and shaped by a lifetime of global travel, Kitty Yuen’s passion for architecture is deeply rooted in her curiosity about cultures and people. Guided by the belief that design is a form of cultural anthropology, Kitty approaches each project as a journey of exploration—deeply engaging with her clients’ business, work styles, and environments to craft spaces that resonate.
With over 30 years of experience, Kitty brings a visionary approach to concept design for corporate campuses, headquarters, academic institutions, and civic spaces. Her leadership has helped elevate the presence of national firms in Denver, and her portfolio includes high-impact projects for Gates Corporation, Liberty Global, Charter Communications, and the International Center for Afghan Women’s Economic Development. During her time at Gensler, she played a key role in launching the firm’s offices in China and led the design of academic spaces like the University of Denver’s Hotel and Restaurant Management School. She specialized in shaping holistic environments for Fortune 500 clients and their headquarters in Denver.
Beyond her project work, Kitty is a passionate advocate for mentorship and authenticity in the profession. She encourages emerging designers to find their voice, engage with local organizations, and bring their lived experiences into the studio. With nearly 20 years of volunteer service with AIA, she credits her community involvement with shaping her growth as a designer and leader.
Kitty has called Denver home for over 30 years, where she and her husband designed and built their own residence. Outside of work, she enjoys visiting with her twin daughters on opposite coasts, exploring new culinary experiences, and immersing herself in art and culture. Whether at home or abroad, she’s always seeking fresh perspectives and inspiration through the lens of local communities.
