May Member Spotlight: Candice Rabovsky, AIA

With over 25 years of experience in interior architecture, Candice brings a wealth of knowledge, creativity, and leadership to the AIA’s Interior Architecture Knowledge Community (IAKC), where she currently serves as co-chair. Now in her third year in the IAKC leadership group, Candice is a passionate advocate for thoughtful, forward-thinking, human-centered design in the interior environment.

A native Marylander, Candice was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in the “DMV” (D.C., and its Maryland and Virginia suburbs). Candice’s architectural journey started her freshman year of high school in a drafting class.  Here she experienced true flow, losing track of time and fully immersed in her classwork.  This is where her strengths and interests came together in a meaningful way, and her path into the world of architecture began. Prior to her senior year, she took part in a summer architecture program at Catholic University, and her passion was officially cemented!

Candice continued her studies at the University of Maryland, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Architecture degree.  An internship with the Fannie Mae headquarters facilities team led her to her first job out of school at the DC-based Greenwell Goetz Architects, an architecture firm specializing in corporate interiors.  Her career path has included working in the federal/state government, education, and workplace sectors.  Currently, Candice is a senior associate with Ayers Saint Gross where she has worked a collective 14 years specializing in higher education and workplace. Candice’s career has been defined by her ability to blend strategic vision with design excellence; crafting spaces that inspire learning, collaboration, and innovation. Her projects reflect a commitment to sustainability, wellness, and community. She has a great appreciation for the intersection between architecture and interiors; valuing the important role interior architecture plays in the built environment.

Complementing her role as an architect, Candice has been active in both local and national community organizations.  With much of her volunteer experience centering around the arts, underserved populations, and youth, Candice believes volunteering and giving back to the community at large plays a vital role in how architecture affects our world.  She sees the spaces we create directly impact our society and feels connecting with our community makes for better and more thoughtful designers.

Candice currently resides in the Annapolis area, where she spends her free time with her daughter exploring their backyard and beyond. Having a lifelong love of the arts, Candice rarely passes up an opportunity to be creative, and aspires to one day fine tune her watercolor skills.  She loves libraries, art museums, gardening, cooking, reading, and watching (guilty pleasure) reality TV.
