The Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) of the United Nations is charged with assisting nations in the established of incarceration facilities following post-conflict and post-disaster situations. These DPKO prisons are intended to be permanent. Urder the auspices of the International corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA), a team of U.S., Canada, and New Zealand architects, planners, engineers, and manufacturers have worked to develop solutions that meet the minimum standards of the United Nations, European Commission Rules, and the ACA. Concepts for rapid deployment prosons that are livable, sustainable, affordable, and secure have been presented to the United Nations and delegates from more than 80 nations. This panel will provide an opportunity for additional input from members of the AIA Academy of Architecture for Justice before the Planning and Design Manual is finalized.
