The BIM Scorecard: An Objective Approach to Improve BIM performance and Worldwide BIM Knowledge

When:  May 18, 2012 from 02:00 PM to 03:30 PM (ET)

FR203
Speaker(s): Calvin Kam, PhD, AIA, PE, LEED AP, Tony Rinella, Assoc. AIA

This program provides a fresh and extremely valuable view of buiilding information modeling (BIM) that will be useful to designers; planners; builders; facility owners or operators; and the overall architecture, engineering, construction, owner, and operator (AECOO). The presentation will cover theory, practical implementation, and specific case studies using the BIM scorecard (BIMscore) process. This view is based on scientific method developed and proven over a decade of industry research on BIM and virtual design and construction (VDC) performed at Stanford University’s Center for Integrated Facility Engineering (CIFE). The data behind the analysis come from AIA BIM Award-winning projects, projects studied at CIFE, and other selected projects from around the world.

The BIMscore method has been proven to be immediately applicable to any project (whether formally identified as BIM-enabled, LEAN, IPD, virtual design + construction, or not) to provide a snapshot of the BIM process or as a periodic checkup to gauge a project’s BIM health and inform Kaizen-style continual improvement efforts. The BIMscore can be used as a standalone measure to evaluate strength of a single project execution plan, or it can be used to compare projects with tens of other projects.
