Every profession has mysteries, but architecture seems more obscure than most. For custom residential architects, our passion most often lies in design of buildings, but one way or another every architect soon learns there is a practice to run. Most days and many nights are given over to managing clients, contracts, and staff. Fees must be negotiated, fires must be doused, and client relationships must be maintained. The buildings are rightly celebrated, but it is the behind-the-scenes work that make them happen.
