This session will explore how small and emerging architectural firms can break into the lucrative world of public sector design projects. Panelists from the AIA Public Architects Knowledge Community advisory group will discuss the processes their agencies use to acquire professional design services, opportunities for getting a foot in the door with small projects, and tips for how to get noticed.

Learning Objectives

1. Describe the process public authorities use to engage architectural firms to provide professional design services.

2. Explain the advantages of teaming with large experienced firms as a consultant or joint venture partner to gain experience in the public sector.

3. Evaluate strategies for preparing their teams’ statements of qualifications to attract favorable attention from evaluators and to maximize their scores.

4. Review and assess which members of their teams are the most valuable players to bring into the interview room and to participate in the conversation with the interview panel.
