The U.S. General Services Administration, the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC), and the District of Columbia have joined forces to develop a revolutionary approach to urban design and planning. They are using building information modeling (BIM) in conjunction with geospatial analysis and energy and sustainable design tools to enable a new approach to solving urban design problems. The NCPC, in partnership with other federal agencies and the District of Columbia, seeks to prepare and analyze alternative ways to revitalize the 10th Street and Maryland Avenue corridors in Southwest Washington, D.C. The process will engage federal agencies, the District of Columbia, and private land owners and residents who have a critical role to play in the future of the area.

The purpose of the project is to prepare a revitalization plan that advances the work of the recently adopted Monumental Core Framework Plan and its vision for transforming the 10th Street and Maryland Avenue corridors into a model 21st- century sustainable community. This session will explore how BIM and geospatial analysis are providing value input into this urban design process.
