    Dear AIA Community,

    My name is Anna Zyerova, I am an architect and currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Architecture, with a focus on interactivity in architectural transformation and urban design. I am actively looking for reputable, SCOPUS-indexed journals in the fields of:

    • Architecture

    • Architectural Design

    • Urbanism / Urban Design

    • Interactivity in architecture

    Preferably, I am seeking journals that are U.S.-based or have strong connections with the American academic and professional architectural community.

    If anyone can recommend relevant journals or share your publishing experience in this area, I would greatly appreciate your advice. My goal is to publish my upcoming articles as part of my doctoral work in a recognized peer-reviewed journal with international visibility.

    Recommendations for SCOPUS-Indexed Journals in Architecture/Urban Design would be highly appreciated.

    Hello Anna,

    Here are a few below, depending on the focus of your research. Journal of Architectural and Planning Research (JAPR), Environment and Planning B and most Sage journals (Urban Studies, Environment & Planning) have U.S. based publishers but I am not sure how much that matters. All the journals below have high impact factors. Though I have never published in any of them (I publish in management journals), I have found the quality of research in most of them very useful for my research agenda. Let me know if you have any questions or just want to talk some more. 

    1. Journal of Architecture

    • Publisher: Taylor & Francis

    • Focus: Architectural theory, history, design research.

    • Style: Theoretical, design- and culture-oriented.

    2. Cities

    • Publisher: Elsevier

    • Focus: Urban planning, development, policy, and governance.

    • Style: Empirical, policy-oriented; very popular in urban studies.

    3. Urban Studies

    • Publisher: SAGE

    • Focus: Urban theory, spatial analysis, housing, city systems.

    • Style: Theoretically rigorous, interdisciplinary.

    4. Journal of Urban Design

    • Publisher: Taylor & Francis

    • Focus: Urban morphology, design theory, public space design.

    • Style: A blend of theory and practice.

    5. Environment and Planning B: Urban Analytics and City Science

    • Publisher: SAGE

    • Focus: Spatial analysis, computational urbanism, GIS.

    • Style: Quantitative, methodological innovations.

    6. Sustainable Cities and Society

    • Focus: Sustainability, smart cities, environmental design.
