RUDC Forum at the 2025 AIA Conference on Architecture & Design
    CALL FOR SPEAKERS

The RUDC Forum at AIA'25 seeks to create a venue for architects and other conference participants to highlight the architect's role in urban design and planning. Urban Design is a discipline that floats between architecture, landscape architecture, and planning, and the importance of architects as participants in the field should continue to be promoted. The Regional and Urban Design Knowledge Community (RUDC) promotes excellence in design, planning, and public policy in the built environment through its members and public education, in concert with allied community and professional groups.

In addition to providing a venue to amplify issues of urban design at AIA'25, the RUDC Forum will support building connections and networking between members of the Knowledge Community and others interested. RUDC is well-known for bringing our allied professionals (ASLA, APA, academia, etc.) into AIA circles, and this forum will continue this mission of cross-pollination, inviting non-architects to join the conference as well. All urbanists are welcome!

The RUDC will feature approximately 10 speakers with short "lightning talks" to highlight issues faced by urban designers across the country. Each selected speaker will be allotted five minutes (strictly monitored – no overage) for their presentation. This encourages talks to focus on the salient issues at play and is not intended to host in-depth discussions. However, with diverse topics presented through these "Lighting Talks," the RUDC Forum seeks to inspire new ideas, invigorate architects' involvement in regional and urban design, and ignite deeper conversations in the following networking time at the end of the presentations.

If you are interested in being considered to participate as a speaker, please reach out to the RUDC Chair, Scott Archer (sarcher@land-collective.com), with your name, organization, and proposed topic. Speaker selections will be made by the end of April. This is a voluntary speaking opportunity. Selected speakers will not be compensated or reimbursed for conference registration, travel, or other related costs. However, if desired, selected speakers may participate in the RUDC Forum without registration for the rest of the conference.
