The United Nations estimates that 230 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa live in informal settlements with inadequate housing, sanitation and infrastructure. Access to adequate and affordable housing is a current and growing problem in all countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. The increase in the urban population has outpaced economic development in most regions of the African continent, resulting in an increased demand for safe, clean, and adequate housing that is also affordable.
