  • 1.  Induction Cooktops/Ranges - Multifamily

    Posted 06-30-2025 03:59 PM

We are trying to encourage more of our multifamily projects to use induction cooktops because of their energy efficiency over electric resistance, and because some incentive programs in California require them as a prerequisite. We haven't been successful yet in getting these in on a project, because of perceptions around cost deltas and the need for magnetic cookware.

Have any of you working on multifamily projects successfully gotten induction cooktops/ranges in your project? If so I'd love to hear more about the project (number of units, housing typology) and if you have gotten any specific feedback from property management about how they are holding up over time. Thanks!

Are you working in market-rate or affordable multifamily? We've had success getting induction cooktops on some of our affordable projects because clients want safer, lower fire risk options for certain populations. Currently we have a project in construction for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities that has induction cooktops, we also have a few in design that are planning for induction because of the success on previous clients' projects. All of these have so far been with the same client, wood frame over concrete podium apartments, with about 40-65 units.

Happy to answer more specific questions if you're interested.

    Hi Jessica,

We work in both market-rate and affordable multifamily. That's great to hear your clients are having success with induction--love the selling point about lower fire risk. Have you heard about how these are holding up over time, and whether they have done any specific tenant education around how induction works?
