    Hi Jonathan,

We are architects who specialize in healthy home construction - both as Architects/designers and as consultants with other architects, builders, and home owners. I am an instructor with the Building Biology Institute and teach a course specifically on vetting building materials for construction. We primarily focus on the materials and building techniques used and how they contribute to healthy indoor air quality as well as being resilient to moisture and resistant to mold growth. We like to consult with electromagnetic specialists for lighting and electromagnetic concerns. Here is a link to our website and consulting page. Feel free to reach out directly -  if you want to know more about what we do.

Read about Richard Neutra's Biorealism philosophy on design. It is the benchmark for holistic design and a great reference.
Biorealism is a design philosophy coined by Austrian-American modernist architect Richard Neutra
It defines the inseparable, biological relationship between humans and nature, arguing that architecture must actively support the physical, neurological, and psychological well-being of its inhabitants by seamlessly connecting them with the natural environment.

    The Core Principles of Biorealism
    • Evidence-Based Design: Neutra relied heavily on human biology, physiology, and early neuroscience, believing that design should cater to the sensory and neural functions of the human body.
    • Connection to Nature: He emphasized open, translucent structures with deep eaves, operable glass walls, and integrated landscaping to dissolve the barrier between indoors and outdoors.
    • Technology as a Bridge: Rather than viewing technology as a way to conquer nature, Neutra used it (such as steel framing and radiant heating) to enhance human comfort and survival.
    Defining Characteristics in His Work
    • Fluid Indoor-Outdoor Spaces: Frequent use of reflecting pools, patios, and expansive gardens to visually and physically extend the living space.
    • Sensory Engagement: Carefully calibrated lighting, ventilation, and materials to prevent sensory overload and promote psychological harmony.
